Miranda Brown ’27 has won the prestigious Freedom Forum Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Award.
Miranda was chosen to represent Vermont as one of just 51 students nationwide (one from each state and Washington, D.C.). The program recognizes high school juniors who demonstrate a passion for journalism, leadership, and a commitment to the principles of a free press.
As part of the award, Miranda will receive:
- A $1,000 college scholarship
- An all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
- The opportunity to participate in a five-day journalism conference featuring visits to major news organizations, including outlets like The Wall Street Journal, and sessions with Emmy- and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists
Brown is the current Managing Editor of the Register and has been recognized for her writing this year in articles like “Erasing the True History”.
