Rose Howell ’26 was named Vermont High School Journalist of the Year by the New England Scholastic Press Association (NESPA).
Howell is the co-editor-in-chief of the student newspaper of BHS, The Register. She now advances to the national Journalist of the Year competition, with a winner to be announced in April at the Journalism Education Association’s convention in Minneapolis.
To enter the contest, Howell submitted a portfolio of her work, a resume of her journalism experience and a reflective essay.
In addition, Howell was selected for NESPA’s All New England High School Journalism Staff, recognizing top student journalists across the region. Howell is one of two NESPA honorees from Vermont, the other being Grace Warrington who restarted the newspaper program at CVU.
Next year, Howell plans on pursuing journalism at Northwestern University.
