The school board approved the budget at City Hall Tuesday night.

Last night the Burlington School Board unanimously approved a $91,525,288 budget for the 2020-2021 school year. The 2019-2020 school year had an approved budget of $88,706,132. This new proposed budget is a 7.36% increase for property taxpayers and 3.18% for income taxpayers. However, This is less than the initial predicted increase of 10.5% which was based on normal inflation. The 2020-2021 budget provides per pupil spending of $16,920.53.

Superintendent Yaw Obeng said that the budget will allow existing programs to thrive as well as create additional programs and opportunities for students.

“The main thing is [the board members] want to maintain the quality and standard we have,” Obeng said. “At the same time looking after the social emotional issues we have around us.”

The budget will be voted on by the public on Town Meeting Day: March 3, 2020.
