In October of 2022, a teaser of “Girlfriend”, a poppy 80s inspired song, went viral on TikTok. This was the work of Isimeme Naomi Udu, more commonly known by her stage name Hemlocke Springs. With only three singles released on Spotify, 25 year old Springs has managed to rack up over a million monthly listeners.

BHS welcomed back alumni Peter Bowley this January

BHS welcomed back alumni Peter Bowley this January as the Drama Club’s new Director. Bowley has chosen “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” as his first musical.
The show is based on Charles Schultz’s “Peanuts” comics of the same name. “It’s a very sweet, very wholesome musical that follows the main ‘Peanuts’ characters,” Bowley said. “We chose it because I wanted to do a first show that was more ensemble based and collaborative. I wanted to do something that was family-friendly, so that more people in the community could get engaged and realize like, ‘oh, the BHS Drama program is back up.’”

Higher Ground hosted a show that sold out of its 7

Higher Ground hosted a show that sold out of its 750 tickets in one day. 99 Neighbors, North Ave Jax, Real Ricky, UVM Elites, and Love, Kelly were some of the artists in front of the crowd. These performers include a number of BHS graduates and alumni who all came together to put on an affordable show for their hometown. With ticket sales starting at $5, many students, friends and peers of the artists were found in the crowd. It was a community celebration.

The Addams family has remained one of the most iconic fictional families for almost a century. First created by Charles Addams in the late 1930s, the family has since left their mark on generations through numerous television adaptations. “The Addams Family”, released in 1991, and its sequel, “Addams Family Values”, were staple films of my childhood — particularly the latter. Now renowned gothic director Tim Burton has taken it upon himself to turn the classic childhood movie into an eight episode Netflix series starring Jenna Ortega.

Last year as Christmas got closer and closer I began to stress out realizing, “oh shoot I still don’t have gifts for anyone!” Between homework and sports, I couldn't find time to go Christmas shopping. I usually like to get people meaningful gifts- something that I know will make them laugh or that’s actually useful. Last year, I just got people stuff instead.

This is an issue across our country. Last year UPS expected 8.75 million gifts to be returned, and according to RetailDive, 5 billion pounds of returned gifts end up in landfills. What if we could just avoid this unnecessary trash in the first place?

Tuesday, December 13, Lauren McBride publicly anno

Tuesday, December 13, Lauren McBride publicly announced her upcoming resignation as principal of Burlington High School. The news was revealed this evening in an email from Superintendent Tom Flanagan.

“While I am saddened by this news, I understand that she has been presented with an opportunity that she feels she must pursue,” Flanagan wrote. “In her time as principal, Lauren has done great work leading BHS through a challenging leadership transition and into a new building for learning.”

Attached in the email was a letter from McBride.

“This decision has not been easy, as I have deep respect and love for the Burlington community, and specifically the students and staff of BHS,” McBride wrote.

McBride explained her process leading up to the decision.

“In the past several weeks I have been presented with an opportunity that I feel I must pursue both for myself and for those who have loved and encouraged me throughout my professional journey.,” McBride said.

BSD administration has already begun the search to find a new principal for BHS.

“I want you to know that we are working to create a transition plan for the high school, including finalizing Principal McBride’s last day and bringing in an acting principal to help lead the school as we launch a national search for the next principal of BHS,” Flanagan said.
