Alpine Skiing
Record/Ranking: N/A
Season So Far: The Alpine Ski team has had a relatively impressive season so far. It is hard to determine the success of a team in Alpine, as it is very individualized. Captain Marley Tipper reflects on some of the challenges the team has faced so far this season. “We need to improve on technique and community. Everyone is still grouping off and it does not feel like a real team. Team unity is difficult to create because of how individual the scoring system is,” Tipper said. However, skiers Spencer MacDonald (two 2nd place finishes) and Marley Tipper (1st place finish) have had success in recent races. The Alpine team will look to continue to improve as the season progresses towards the state championships.

Record/Ranking: 3-7-0 / 10th

However they have cooled of as of late, dropping seven straight to middling competition aside from two losses to 2nd seeded Mount Mansfield. One thing team co-captain Peter Loescher believes to have contributed to the losing streak is big mistakes. “We’ve had a lot of close games where one or two quick breakdowns that have cost us the Ws,” Loescher said. The 3-7 team snapped its seven game skid after defeating Missisquoi Valley 6-2 at home on Wednesday, January 24. However, they have lost two in a row against Harwood and Lyndon coming off the win. They will look to bounce back yet again at Milton at 6:30PM on Saturday, February 3.

Co-captain Bella Weston attributes much of the growing pains to the recent integration of Burlington and Colchester’s hockey teams which occurred two years ago. “Getting players to work together efficiently can be hard sometimes. However, we are continuing to improve and I’m looking forward to the remainder of the season,” Weston said. Season So Far: After starting 0-2 with disappointing losses to rival 2nd ranked Rice and 3rd ranked Mount Mansfield, the Boys’ Basketball team has heated up. We were in a slump but we are out of it now … When we play with intensity and energy, we are a scary team to play against,” Garrison said. While a positive outlook is good, the Seahorses need to prove that they can compete at the top level. After losing two of their last three games against 5th ranked South Burlington and 1st ranked Rutland, the Seahorses will look for a victory at home against St. Johnsbury at 6:30PM on Friday, February 2.

Also, I think we need to believe in ourselves because we are capable of so much this year,” Beste said. However, they have yet to consistently prove themselves against top competition, going 2-5 against teams above .500 and 6-1 against teams below .500. They will look to improve against top competition at home against undefeated Champlain Valley at 6:30 PM on Thursday, February 1.
