What inspired you to become a teacher/job- what’s your favorite thing about it?
“I became a teacher originally because I loved English, creative writing and literature and wanted to have a job that allowed me to teach it and talk about it with others. I became an administrator because I love working with students and teachers, and I wanted to play a bigger role in helping build systems in schools and solve challenges.”
What can students expect from you?
“They can expect me to be consistent, curious and fair.”
What’s something you want students to know about you?
“This is my 18th year working in education, and during that time I taught in Arizona, Arkansas and Oregon before moving to Vermont. In Vermont, I taught or worked at CVU, Vergennes HS, Middlebury HS, and Edmunds MS before coming to BHS this year.”
What hobbies do you enjoy outside of school?
“I enjoy gardening, getting outside, reading and writing fiction and nonfiction and baking!”
What’s your favorite book of all time?
“I don’t have a single favorite. There are lots of books I’ve loved over different stages of my life and which were important for me to read.”
If you could go anywhere in the world- where would you go?
“I really, really want to go to Australia and New Zealand.”
What’s something about yourself you think people would find surprising?
“For all of my childhood, I expected to go into a career in the sciences. At various points, I wanted to be a veterinarian, a meteorologist or a marine biologist. Going into English and Creative Writing was a last-minute decision halfway through my college application process. But I did take enough courses to have minors in Astronomy and Meteorology.”
Forest, city or beach?
“Forest, because I find the woods – the sounds, smells and everything else about it – peaceful.”
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
“I would be able to pause time [so that I was] able to continue to move around and accomplish things while everything else around me freezes.”
