The girls lacrosse team is trending. 14 players have turned into 36 over three years, and wins have increased from zero in 2021 to eight last season.
Sarah Raimondi has been the BHS girls lacrosse coach during this time and says the success and the nearly tripling of players is a natural byproduct of “providing an environment that’s fun and encouraging.”
¨Everyone’s just super supportive of each other,” Raimondi said. “And now we’ve got some people on the team that picked up lacrosse three years ago and are scoring goals every game.¨
Varsity captain Brooks Deshaw ‘24 agrees that the environment from fellow teammates is ideal and says that having a good time while practicing has been best for her personal improvement.
“Sarah allows us to have fun, but also incorporates these fun competitions: wall ball and stuff like that,” Deshaw said. “And I think that’s what helped me with my stick skills the most.”
The team is younger, with less than 33% of total players being upperclassmen.
¨I’ve been lucky enough to see a lot of improvement,¨ Deshaw said.
Deshaw said that at the beginning of her experience with the team success was seldom, but that was motivation.
¨[It] encouraged, especially the veterans, to push everyone else and now we’re winning games. Which is pretty great,¨ Deshaw said.
Their record this year is 10-5. They will be playing MMU in their first playoff game tonight, June 4 at 5:30.
