BREAKING:

Signs posted by the Junior Republican Committee of Burlington High School (BHS) today sparked controversy amongst students and members of the greater community. The sign pictured below was approved by principal Tracy Racicot and hung around the school by the Junior Republican Committee.

A group of BHS students traveled to Montpelier this morning to witness the raising of a Black Lives Matter flag. When they returned, this group and other BHS students responded to the original sign by creating and posting this sign (click here to see sign). Racicot also approved this sign.

The signs have set off a wave of protests on social media and fueled a debate on free speech in public schools on the Facebook forum, “Support Our Burlington Schools”.

Racicot could not be reached for comment at this time.

This post will be updated.
