On Monday, March 22, the head of Casella Waste Systems, John W. Casella, bought the old Burlington High School campus through a local auction. He released the news through a press release, sending shock waves throughout the Burlington community.

“With the high level of PCBs we determined this to be a smart use of the building, I’m technically doing the Burlington community a favor,” the Casella team said. “Plus, the layout is perfect for a dump. The building is pretty much identical to our old facility–the creaking floors, stained walls, it’s perfect!”

In response to the heated debate over the new space, Casella sent out a press release last Thursday stating: “We understand the backlash of the community, and offer to keep up the BHS signs and wall decor to maintain the building’s original integrity.”

With the future of the current campus remaining uncertain, one thing is clear: in the words of John W. Casella, “The new dump is sure to be an improvement of the old BHS campus.”
